Disney Open 24 Hours for 'Monstrous' Celebration in May (VIDEO)

Disney is planning a monstrous summer and to celebrate, the company has plans to keep their amusement parks open for 24 hours on May 24th.

Memorial Day, while meant to honor those who have served in the military, has also become one of the biggest travel weekends in America. Occurring the last Monday of every May, this year's Memorial Day will land on May 24. To celebrate in a "monstrous" way, Disney will also be opening its doors for 24 hours on that day.

The "monster" celebration refers to Disney's kickoff event, "Monstrous Summer." The parks will stay open from 6:00 a.m. on May 24 to 6 a.m. May 25, local time for a party surrounding the characters from "Monster's Inc." The event will also help promote "Monster's University" a prequel to the original film, starring all the familiar characters in their younger years.

One of the characters, Mike Wazowski, will also stage an Epcot "takeover." His image has been used to take over the Epcot ball in Florida, but the "monstrous" party will be held in all three Disney parks- a first ever for the amusement park.

"This summer, Disney Parks are bursting with a monstrous lineup of new thrills, shows and happenings," Walt Disney World President George Kalogridis said in a press release. "Guests can start Memorial Day Weekend with a 24-hour-marathon of memory-making as three Parks stay open all day and all night to celebrate the bi-coastal kick-off of a Monstrous Summer at Disney Parks."

The monsters will also be walking the park, to add a special treat for guests in need of a spook.

"Guests will scream and giggle with delight at the lineup of thrills and entertainment that promises to make this a day and night to be remembered for a lifetime," the release said.
