'Doctor Who' Season 10 Release Date, Updates, Spoilers: Peter Capaldi Teases 'More Alien' Doctor for Season 10; Christmas Special Title and Trailer Revealed

The cast and crew of "Doctor Who" took over the New York Comic Con, bringing with them new information about Season 10 and a first glimpse at the upcoming Christmas special this year. No less than the Doctor himself (played by Peter Capaldi) and its executive producers, Brian Minchin and Steven Moffat, dished on what fans ought to expect from the show, painting a tantalizing image of "Doctor Who" Season 10.

First, there's "Doctor Who" Season 10

Moffat and Minchin had previously explained that "Doctor Who' Season 10 is as close to a reboot to the series as one could get. This is because the Doctor has a new companion, Bill (Pearl Mackie), who's a complete stranger into his timeline and lifestyle as the Time Lord.

According to Moffat, "Doctor Who" Season 10 will allow viewers to look at the Doctor with a fresh set of eyes, thanks to Bill. Given her introduction into the Doctor's life, Minchin added that "Doctor Who" Season 10 was like starting wholly from scratch, especially since the Twelfth Doctor has literally forgotten about his old companion, Clara (Jenna Coleman).

Peter Capaldi said this "reboot" had been an invigorating thing to do. Bill is in stark contrast to Clara, who had been an intrinsic part of the Doctor's timeline. He revealed that even though Bill is a complete stranger and almost literally stumbles into the TARDIS, the Doctor has somewhat chosen her to bring new layers into his existence come "Doctor Who" Season 10.

The Doctor's 'alienness'; relationship will Bill

Peter Capaldi also teased that fans might get to see more of his alienness in "Doctor Who" Season 10. The Doctor being an alien has always been a sticking point throughout the seasons, but he's always been most human, more capable of emotional response, whenever he's with his companions: Rose, Amy, Clara, among others.

As pointed out by ScreenRant, the Doctor usually goes through a period of melancholy (read: humanness), whenever he changes companion. But since Clara was wiped off clean from his memory, how will this affect him and Bill in "Doctor Who" Season 10?

"Doctor Who" Christmas Special

Meanwhile, the "Doctor Who" team also revealed the title of their Christmas Special, "The Return of Doctor Mysterio". It's a nod to the show's fans in Latin America, where the show is titled "Doctor Misterio". The Christmas special will see the Twelfth Doctor teaming up with the caped crusader (played by Justin Chatwin) and a journalist (Charity Wakefield) as they deal with an alien menace threatening New York City. With them comes Matt Lucas, who will be reprising his role as Nardole.

"Doctor Who" Christmas special will air this year during the holidays, while Season 10 will return to BBC on spring 2017.
