'Doctor Who' - 'Sherlock' Crossover Episode News, Rumors: Producer Steven Moffat Addresses Rumors

BBC's two iconic TV shows, "Doctor Who" and "Sherlock," have long been subjected to rumors that a crossover episode could happen.

Fans of the two titles strongly speculate that there's really a big possibility for it given the fact that they are both written and produced by the same person, Steven Moffat.

A report from Screen Rant indicated that the network and Moffat have actually been considering the idea, but that things aren't as easy as people would think.

Moffat's talked about whether or not the modern-day, highly intelligent detective could really meet the Time Doctor. He said he would be more open to the idea if not for both series' fans.

"My instinct — and this is probably from years of doing Doctor Who — is I'm just such a tart. If people want to, we should give it to them," he told Entertainment Weekly. "But I got persuaded by Mark, Benedict, [executive producer Sue Vertue] and Martin saying, 'Look, it will never be as good as they think it's going to be,' and then I say, 'Yes, but we'll just bang it out and make it as good.' 'Yeah, but you can't give everybody everything they want all the time.'

"I'm in the camp of giving them everything they want. But I think they're sane and right and I'm just a tart," Moffat added.

Entertainment Weekly speculated that it wouldn't really be a surprise if BBC "remains reluctant" to do the crossover. Fans rooting for the tie-in should be wary of how it could "create a major ripple" in each of the series' canons, Screen Rant suggested.

"Doctor Who" Season 9 is slated to air this fall while "Sherlock" will air its Christmas Special this December and its 4-episode Season 4 in 2016.
