Doctors Call Planned Parenthood Out on Lies

New undercover video footage by a pro-life advocacy group exposes staff at a Planned Parenthood clinic providing false information to a woman seeking abortion.

"It's not a baby," the abortionist, identified as Dr. P, tells the woman who is supposedly 10 weeks pregnant.

The video was released by Live Action, a California-based organization that investigates abortion clinics to expose "threats against the vulnerable and defenseless." Earlier this year, the organization released footage revealing a Planned Parenthood employee covering up a case of statutory rape.

In the latest undercover project, two young women visited a Planned Parenthood clinic in Appleton, Wis., on September 8. There they spoke to a counselor and the abortion doctor.

When asked about the heartbeat of the 10-week old fetus, the counselor claimed it has "heart tones" and that heartbeats do not begin until about 17 or 18 weeks. "Heart tones is a cardiac activity, but it is not a beat on your own that you would survive outside the uterus," the counselor told the women.

Others in the medical community disagree.

"The heart begins to beat by 4 weeks," said embryologists Dianne Irving, a former bench research biochemist with the National Institutes of Health and a professor of Medical Ethics at Georgetown University, and Ward Kischer, professor emeritus of Cell Biology and Anatomy specializing in embryology at the University Arizona.

The two doctors told Live Action that the information presented by the Appleton clinic is "absurd and scientifically erroneous."

During the undercover visit, the two women were also told by the counselor that the 10-week old fetus was not a baby.

"A baby is what's born at 40 weeks," the counselor said.

Later, the abortionist, who said he's been performing the procedure for 40 years, also claimed the fetus was not a baby "at this stage."

But his definition of a baby differed with that of the counselor. "It becomes a baby when you're like seven months pregnant or so," he said.

The abortionist also claimed that the procedure at her stage of pregnancy was very safe, "safer than having a baby."

"Women die having babies," he asserted, as shown in the video.

Footage also included audio clips of former Planned Parenthood director Abby Johnson exposing the practices of the abortion organization.

"Planned Parenthood tries to instill in their employees and the women that are coming in for abortions that this is not a baby. This is just a mass of cells," Johnson, who quit the abortion industry after eight years of employment, said last month on Fox's "The O'Reilly Factor."

Wisconsin informed consent law requires that women receive medically accurate information before undergoing an abortion. Drs. Irving and Kischer say that the Appleton clinic's counseling practices violate that law. They further call on the parties involved to "be held accountable for their inherently unethical and destructive lies and procedures."

The latest video is part of Live Action's Rose Acuna Project, which aims to expose the truth about Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion provider.

Behind the project is Lila Rose, 21, president of Live Action.

"Everyday Planned Parenthood violates the most basic medical, ethical, and legal codes in order to sell more abortions to vulnerable women," she said in a statement. "Planned Parenthood confuses medical terms and lies outright about medical facts to hide the humanity of the woman's unborn child and make 'the pregnancy' more 'abortable.'"
