'DOTA 2 Reborn' Beta to Launch Next Week

The biggest multiplayer online battle arena game, "Defense of the Ancients 2" or also known as "DOTA 2" is getting a major technical overhaul, according to game developer Valve. The game will be getting a lot of upgrades that will help the game become more "intuitive" for users.

"DOTA 2" is a critically-acclaimed game because of its complexity and depth. However, the game is also becoming increasingly known as one that has a "steep learning curve" and an "inhospitable community." Because of the game's complexity, the developer is looking at ways to make it a little bit easier to learn and play the game.

Among the upgrades, the reborn version will have is in the game's interface. The game's official site talks about a "dashboard redesign" that updates key features such as party management, invites, voice chats. There will also be a new party beacon that will let players broadcast that they are "open" and looking for more party members.

To foster better interaction between players and their friends, players will have customizable miniprofiles and activity feeds. With the new interface, friends can also compare their hero performances and playstyles. The hero browser also gets an overhaul, allowing players to filter heroes, sort sets and items available for heroes.

Players will also be able to view new information such as detailed graphs and statistics on DotaTV. DOTA tournament matches can also be viewed on DotaTV or even bookmarked to be watched later.

To help new players along, the reborn version will also have new Guided Bot Matches and tutorials on DOTA mechanics.

More information about other upgrades such as the new Custom Games as well as an explanation on how the new engine will work will be announced late next week. Details of the open beta and how to participate will also be announced next week.
