'Downton Abbey' Season 6 News, Spoilers: Executive Producer Gareth Neame Talks About the Show's Upcoming Conclusion
The end of ITV's hit period TV drama series "Downton Abbey" is now just around the corner and the show's executive producer recently shared his predictions as to what the members of the cast and crew will feel when they shoot the last scenes.
"I think it's only beginning to dawn on people that the end is nigh," showrunner Gareth Neame said in an interview with GoldDerby.com. "It's not going to sink in until we shoot each other's final scene or we shoot the last scene at Highclere Castle. As we applaud off each character on their last scene will be quite moving."
When asked about any details as to what the upcoming sixth season will be about, Neame chose to remain mum about it.
"If you said to your children on the first day of December, 'Would you like to open your presents now?' the kids would all say, 'Yes, please.' Half an hour later they would all be crying because they would have spoiled things," he said.
He did, however, teased the further development of Edith's (Laura Carmichael) storyline, which is apparently one of his favorites.
"This was the ugly duckling from season one and the also-ran of the three sisters. By season five, this is a woman on fire who is becoming a professional woman. Talk about learning from the school of hard knocks. Everything has gone wrong for this woman and yet she keeps plowing on," the EP said.
"Downtown Abbey" Season 6, the last installment of the series, is slated to premiere in the U.S. via PBS in early 2016.
