Dr. Mehmet Oz's health challenge recently drew in one million people looking to lose weight, win money and appear on television with the surgeon, author and Emmy Award-winning host.

Oz began a health and weight-loss challenge in September called "Oz's Transformation Nation." The challenge uses the help of Weight Watchers, Sharecare and health professionals to encourage people to reach their goals.

During "The Dr. Oz Show" on Feb. 6, an announcement was made about the one millionth participant joining the "Transformation Nation" challenge. Oz said he was excited about drawing in so many people after beginning the challenge last September.

"It is one of the most rewarding experiences of my life," Oz said.

On his website, Oz described the seven key steps to successfully taking part in the challenge as telling a friend, officially weighing-in, connecting with a doctor, learning family health history, getting more sleep, assessing stress and starting new fitness habits.

Another part of the challenge involves one person winning $1 million after people vote for the most inspirational and successful weight-loss contestant. The winner will also appear on "The Dr. Oz Show" once selected by voters.

However, the cutoff date to participate in the challenge is Feb. 26. Interested participants can learn more about Oz's challenge on the website, http://doctoroz.sharecare.com.

Although he has created his own challenge, the doctor and television host is also helping other organized groups with their own health initiatives.

Oz will appear on a televised web conference with pastor and author Rick Warren in Saddleback Church on Saturday to help promote the churchwide campaign for healthy living with menus, exercise tips and inspirational stories.

Warren recently spoke about the importance of including God and Oz in the health and fitness improvement plan.

"God is as interested in your physical health as he is your spiritual health," Warren said in an introductory video of the plan. "He wants you to be not just spiritually healthy, but physically healthy … whole in mind, body, and spirit. That's why I got together three of my friends, three well-known doctors to put together a one year plan."
