A source close to Drake reportedly told Hollywood Life about why the rapper chose to collaborate with the troubled singer, after both dated singer Rihanna.

"There are no issues between them whatsoever as you can see. Drake has always said he doesn't have a problem with Chris and he meant that," a source told HollywoodLife.com. "He will work with anyone in the biz if he thinks the collab has the potential to be epic."

While Rihanna and Brown have a longer romantic history together, she dated Drake earlier this year. However, the rapper reportedly told the singer about why he would do so.

"He's sure Rihanna doesn't agree with him working with Chris, but at the end of the day, he's going to make his own decisions," a source close to Drake reportedly told Hollywood Life. "And like he told Rihanna from the jump, he's about his music and that comes first — even if it is doing a collab with Chris."

The news comes two years after Drake and Brown engaged in a physical altercation at a New York City nightclub last year. However Brown's manager, Abou Thiam, is well acquainted with Drake and reportedly thought that it was time to unite the pair last year.

"(Thiam's) very friendly with Drake, and worked to try and get him and Chris together to put their differences aside," a source reportedly told The New York Post last year.

The two musicians came together at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas last November, which the New York Post reports that Drake attended strictly to see Brown perform.

Brown spoke about wanting to collaborate with other artists on his Facebook page last year.

"Collaborating with other artists helps me grow as an artist," he wrote.
