Drew Barrymore: Mom is 'The Hardest Subject In My Life'

Drew Barrymore discussed her relationship with her mother for the first time in many years this week.

While growing up as a child star, Barrymore's relationship with her mother, Jaid Barrymore, publicly deteriorated. Today, the 38-year-old actress is now married and a mother herself, but is estranged from Jaid.

"Ugh, I mean, my relationship with my mom is so complicated," Barrymore began while speaking to Marie Claire magazine.

Barrymore landed her first acting role at age four and went on to star in "E.T." before entering rehab for the first time at age 14. One year later, the actress famously petitioned for juvenile emancipation from her mother, which she was granted.

"I've always been empathetic toward my mom, and I was even more so when I had a kid and we had a really amazing conversation about it," Barrymore added of her mother, who is 67 years old now. "However, it hasn't enabled me to lessen the distance. It's the hardest subject in my life. I've never just been angry with her. I've always felt guilt and utter sensitivity. But we can't really be in each other's lives at this point."

Furthermore, Barrymore admitted resentment over her upbringing, citing her childhood as "unplanned," "erratic" and "inconsistent."

Nevertheless, there is a silver lining. Barrymore married Will Kopelman in 2012 and has become very close to her in-laws.

"This is so safe and positive and healthy because [the Koplemans] have their values intact," she said to Marie Claire. "It was huge for me. And that's what I want for my family."

Barrymore and her husband are expecting their second child, a daughter, in the spring. The actress cited her childhood again while talking about her desire to have several children.

"I hated growing up alone," she said to Marie Claire. "Hated it."

As for her second pregnancy, Barrymore revealed she is intensely craving "pan fried noodles," according to Us Weekly.

"I eat a lot of Chinese food," the star continued while at the Baby2Baby Gala in Los Angeles in November. "I'm going to make a list of the best pan fried noodles in Los Angeles."
