Driveclub PS4 News: Release Date Revealed, Hands-On Review Round Up

The newest racing video game from Evolution Studios is finally here for PlayStation 4. Published and released under Sony Computer Entertainment on Oct. 7 for North American market, Europe and the U.K. will get their hands on the racing franchise on Oct. 8 and Oct. 10, respectively.

There have already been a lot of hands-on reviews circulating around the web. Here's what we rounded up so far.

Key features of the game pointed out are its 50 tracks which run across various continents and environments. Initial numbers of playable cars are around 50 and more are said to be coming via expansions. True to its promotion, Driveclub did offer in-depth and more engaging multiplayer features.

Michael Rundle of Huffington Post first commended the game's strongpoint of it looking so "fantastic."

"It's not quite able to live up to its trailers in person -- what can? -- but baring a few cartoony elements and colouring choices, it's a slick-looking game which uses weather, rising- and setting-suns and atmospheric details to tremendous effect," the media outlet said in their report.

"The driving itself strikes a nice blend between realism and action-oriented drift-heavy corning," the site went on to say. "Driveclub seems to edge towards a subtler, more circumspect use of brakes, and an arcady sense of handling but requires an overall smarter approach to driving. It lacks any kind of 'reverse time' feature too, which helps amp up the tension."

As with its core aspect of multiplayer setting, Rundle said its done particularly well and adds to the game.

"Obviously this is asynchronous as well - you don't all have to be online at the same time - and the result is a more connected sense of progress in what might otherwise be a straightforward, dull game," the reviewer said.

The Verge also shared their bit of opinion, saying the multiplayer additions are "addictive."

"This set-up, along with the ability to make and share challenges with other players, turns Driveclub from an otherwise fairly standard racing game into a surprisingly addictive experience. But it didn't really make me feel any more social," the site stated.

Polygon discusses how the game drives well when it comes to keeping its players entertained and challenged.

"Driveclub isn't a huge leap forward but has smart ideas in its multiplayer," the website reported.
