DriveClub PS4 Release Date, Rumors: 'Huge Technical Issue' Cause of Delay, Official Launch Date Announced

It has been previously announced during the PlayStation 4 Press Conference that the most-awaited open world racing video game by Evolution Studios, DriveClub, will be released in "early 2014." But those who are actually expecting for it to hit the shelves around those dates were left wondering why it never came.

Turns out, the firm encountered a large-scale technical issue that caused them to hold off the unveiling.

"Last year we were hoping to get it done, but there was a huge technical issue. So the team had to go back and re-engineer some parts of the game," Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida said during his talk at GamesCom. "That's the reason it took so long. It's almost a whole year, because the team went back to the drawing board in some of the key aspects of the game."

Sony and Evolution Studios now officially announced that DriveClub will be out on Oct. 8, 2014 exclusively to PlayStation 4 gaming console.

"It's a different kind of game compared to the other games you mentioned. I didn't see any direct competition, from my perspective. I don't know. People will tell us when it comes out," the head of Sony added, in suggestion to the other racing game titles that are also set for release around those dates including Ubisoft's The Crew and Playground Games' Forza Horizon.

Meanwhile, a report from IGN indicated that Sony will be releasing another exclusive bundle collection for their next-gen gaming console – the DriveClub PS4 console bundle, which will be coming out also this October.

Although there's still no definite date for North American release, IGN did mention that it will be €439.99 in the Europe region.

The pack will include a PlayStation 4 console with DualShock 4 controller and an optical disc copy of the DriveClub game.
