"I had tried to date her before, and she kept turning me down! I just kept at it and she finally said yes!" he said.

Robertson also mentioned that his connection with McEacharn was rooted in their mutual faith in Jesus.

"She never gave me the time of day until I started talking about Jesus," said Robertson. "That was the only thing we could ever talk about. And I knew then that she was a good one, because she would help me grow in my faith … And she was pretty good looking!"

Meanwhile, McEaharn said that she has always "prayed God would bring a Christian boy into my life."

"He's an awesome man of God," said the 18-year old, "I figured God had placed him there. He's really funny, you never know what's going to happen with him. He's full of surprises. Plus he's pretty cute."

Robertson also mentioned why he wanted to marry young.

"I know my parents married young as well, and they have always been examples of what 'could be' to me. Fast forward 22 years and they are more in love than ever, and I hope Mary Kate and I are the same way in the years to come. God has truly blessed us," he explained.
