Duggar Family '19 Kids and Counting' News: Duggar Patriarch Blames Birth Control Pills for Michelle's Miscarriage

Controversies surrounding the famous Duggar family of "19 Kids and Counting" seem never to end. This time, it's about the family's patriarch, Jim Bob Duggar and his pro-life views.

In the recent news from Hollywood Life, the 49-year-old father of 19 children further made clear about their views against birth control methods. In a recent interview, Jim claimed that it was the birth control pills that Michelle, his wife, has been taking for a period of time that caused them the life of an unborn child.

Earlier this September, at the 2014 Values Voter Summit in Washington D.C., Jim was asked in "The Friddle Show" about his pro-life views.

He revealed that his 47-year-old wife was once on birth control program during their early years as husband and wife.

"When Michelle and I first got married, we got married pretty young. She was 17, I was 19, and we thought we would eventually have 1 or 2, 3 children, but we weren't ready for children right away. So she went on the birth control pill, and it was on that until about 3 and a half years into our marriage, and then [...] she ended up going off the pill. We had our first son, Josh. Then she went back on the pill," he said.

"And then something we didn't know is that the pill can actually allow women to get pregnant, but then it can be aborted. That's what happened with Michelle," the Duggar head added.

Meanwhile, the media outlet went on to say in their report that Jim Bob's claims couldn't entirely be true.
They quoted Columbia Health's "Go Ask Alice!" column.

"Continuing to take the birth control pill before or after a pregnancy is confirmed will not abort the fetus. Oral contraceptives don't cause miscarriages because they do not have any effect on a fertilized embryo," the column said.
