E3 2016 Review with Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft – What Happened and What Didn't

Sony takes bigger risks while Nintendo and Microsoft stay safe

E3 2016 is in the books after a week of ups and downs from all the major gaming companies. And while the conferences from E3 are finished, the ripple effects caused by the announcements and news will continue to brew conversation across the internet.

While there were several companies that made important announcements and new introductions during E3, the biggest news (or perhaps more appropriately lack thereof) came from the biggest three gaming companies, Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony.

Nintendo

Nintendo seemed to play it the safest of all the three companies. As confirmed they did not release any information on the NX which still leaves several questions about the console.

The biggest reveal that came from Nintendo was the demo for "Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wind." Those who were in attendance for the reveal all confirmed that the game does look amazing, other reveals for Nintendo included a new Mario Party for the 3DS titled "Mario Party: Star Rush" as well new information for "Pokemon Go" and "Pokemon: Sun and Moon."

Microsoft

Microsoft took the Xbox One's path towards a Virtual Reality medium. Most of the games that Microsoft revealed during E3 had a mode for Xbox One's PSVR. Some of the best games that will have a VR compatible mode will include "Resident Evil 7," "Star Wars Battlefront," "Final Fantasy 15," as well as the new Batman game.

Some non-VR games that Microsoft did reveal where playable demos of "Forza" as well as the next installment in the "Gears of War" franchise.

Microsoft also revealed the Xbox One S which is a slimmer version of the original Xbox One. The Xbox One S will come in white and is expected to hit stores before Christmas 2016.

Sony

Sony seems to have had the biggest impact of the three big gaming companies this E3. Similar to what they did in 2015's E3 Sony revealed that several big titles will be PlayStation exclusive.

The biggest title for this E3 has to be the new "God of War" game. This title sees Kratos in a new place and taking on new enemies who are not the Greek Gods.

However, Sony did confirm that the company is now working on a remastered edition of the original Crash Bandicoot games. For those who do not know Crash Bandicoot was Sony's mascot back in the mid to late 90's.

Sony also discussed that they are working on a new version of the PS4 which they are calling the Neo. The Neo is supposed to be able to play games in 4k resolution.

Overall it seems that Sony has taking the biggest risks with games this year at E3 while Microsoft and Nintendo have stayed on the safe side.
