In a blog entry, Stetzer explained some of the reasons for turning to radio for his work, seeing it alongside podcasts as an important way to be "speaking without traveling."

"Over the last few years, I've just ended up doing too many speaking events. I need to be home more, working at LifeWay, at my church more, and just gone less," wrote Stetzer.

"This will be the place where we do a weekly analysis of church, culture, and mission ... "

News of Stetzer joining BreakPoint comes a few weeks after LifeWay announced a one-year partnership with the Billy Graham Center for Evangelism at Wheaton College and LifeWay Research.

Part of this partnership involved Stetzer being appointed to the position of senior fellow at the Billy Graham Center.

Laurie Fortunak Nichols, spokeswoman for the Billy Graham Center, told The Christian Post in an earlier interview that the two entities have "a similar mission to see Christ's Church better equipped to engage in Gospel witness."

"As we considered launching a research arm of the BGCE, Ed Stetzer and his team at LifeWay were a perfect fit to co-partner with Rick Richardson, director of our Evangelizing Churches Initiative, in that endeavor," said Nichols.

"Ed has been a friend of ours for years, so this is an extension of an already established relationship we have had with him."
