'Edge of Tomorrow 2' Release Date Unconfirmed, But Tom Cruise Wants Emily Blunt Involved

"Jack Reacher 2," "Top Gun 2," "Mission: Impossible 6" -- the list keeps on growing for what action star Tom Cruise might do for his upcoming big screen projects. Adding to the list this week is a role from his more recent film, "Edge of Tomorrow" as Major William Cage.

The 53-year-old actor was recently cited attending the New York premiere for his "Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation." In an interview with MTV.com, Cruise revealed that he has already considered doing a sequel to the 2014 hit military science-fiction film.

"I pitched it to [Rogue Nation director and Edge of Tomorrow screenwriter Christopher] McQuarrie and [Edge of Tomorrow director] Doug [Liman]. We were there one night and I was like, I've got an idea for it," the "Oblivion" star said.

The actor chose to keep the details of the movie a secret. However, the publication was quick to point out that it might entirely depart from the storyline told in the upcoming installment of "All You Need Is Kill," the Japanese manga which the original film was based on.

Regardless of the plot, the father of three expressed his utmost wish that the second movie should have his co-star, Emily Blunt, in it.

"It could be so much fun. Gotta get Emily. I was like 'Emily, please.' She was like, 'give me another year, please,'" he said.

The 2014 hit talks about a future where Earth is under invasion from the aliens. Cruise's character, a PR officer, was forced to join a landing operation to fight off the powerful extraterrestrials. During this mission, he met Blunt's Seargeant Rita Vrataski, who, like him, had experienced a time loop phenomenon.
