Ellen Pompeo Slams the Emmys As 'Dated, Embarrassing'

Ellen Pompeo sounded off about Sunday night's 65th Annual Emmy Awards, citing the televised event as "dated" and "embarrassing."

As the star of "Grey's Anatomy," Pompeo has plenty of experience with entertainment awards ceremonies. However, the actress was truly disappointed in this year's Emmys.

"I didn't see any diversity in the Emmys at all," said the 43-year-old star the day after the telecast, according to USA Today. "That dance number was embarrassing. Did you see one person of color in that dance number?"

Pompeo referred to the "Emmys Gold Dancers" that took the stage during the middle of the show on Sunday and featured a chorus line of men.

The actress went on to describe the cast of "Grey's Anatomy" as being well-rounded with actors such as Sandra Oh, Chandra Wilson and Sara Ramirez coming from various backgrounds.

"I'm extremely proud of our very, very diverse cast, which represents the world that I walk around in every day," said Pompeo.

The medical drama has won five Emmy Awards and is entering its 10th season on ABC this Thursday, Sept. 26 at 9 p.m. ET.

Meanwhile, Pompeo is not the only actor to slam the Emmy Awards recently.

"House of Cards" star Corey Stoll addressed questions about his show not being nominated at the Emmys this year.

While at an Emmys party, Stoll said he was not upset that "House of Cards" was not mentioned during the ceremony because the trophies are meaningless.

"Nobody cares about that stuff," he explained, according to TMZ.

Furthermore, Larry Hagman's son Preston Hagman criticized the 2013 Emmys for their Memoriam segment.

Larry Hagman starred on "Dallas" and died at age 81 last November, but this year's Emmys shortened its memoriam segment and just focused on five stars on Sunday.

"I think three seconds was short," said Preston Hagman, according to Us Magazine. "I think all of them were short. If you are going to honor [the In Memoriam recipients], honor them with the respect and dignity that they portrayed. Do it for everyone."
