Bret Easton Ellis said that "Zero Dark Thirty" director Kathryn Bigelow is "really overrated" because "she's a very hot woman" in a recent tweet. Ellis' director overrated comment of Bigelow is being called a sexist remark by his fans and entertainment reporters.

"Kathryn Bigelow would be considered a mildly interesting filmmaker if she was a man but since she's a very hot woman she's really overrated," Ellis, the writer of Lindsay Lohan's upcoming film, tweeted on Dec. 6.

Bigelow, Oscar-winning director of 'The Hurt Locker,' has yet to respond to Ellis' Twitter posts calling her "overrated."

Ellis follow-uped his director overrated remark with another tweet, calling into question the quality of several films directed by Bigelow.

"Strange Days, K-19 The Widowmaker, Blue Steel, The Hurt Locker. Are we talking about visionary filmmaking or just OK junk?" tweeted Ellis to his 360,000-plus followers.

One of his female followers, Holly Richmond, responded to his overrated comment about director Bigelow by saying: "Sexist, desperate attention-grab much"

The Hollywood Reporter also referred to Ellis' tweet as being sexist and ignorant in an article published today:

"On the same day The Hollywood Reporter hosted a breakfast to honor the most powerful women in entertainment and the progress of women in Hollywood in general, as well as the misogyny target-turned-women's rights activist Sandra Fluke, Bret Easton Ellis demonstrated just how far the fight against sexism and ignorance still has to go."

The Reporter also delivered a payback jab to Ellis by mocking his latest project, "The Canyons." Said the publication, "He walked out of The Artist because he didn't find it entertaining but is now at work on a film starring Lindsay Lohan and a porn star."

MSN's Glenn Kenny also didn't take tweets coming from @BretEastonEllis early this morning too well. In response to Ellis' director overrated comments on Bigelow, Kenny shot back that Ellis "would be considered a mildly interesting writer if he was a mildly interesting writer."

"Zero Dark Thirty" is due for limited release on Dec. 19, 2012. The movie is based on the true story of the the United States' successful operation to find Osama Bin Laden.
