Based on a true story, "The Bling Ring" follows a group of fame-obsessed teenagers who use the internet to stalk celebrities in order to rob their homes.

"She's superficial, materialistic, vain, amoral," Watson explained to GQ of her character. "She's all of these things and I realized that I hated her."

Watson's character is loosely based on Alexis Neiers, who briefly starred on E!'s television series "Pretty Wild," according to Yahoo News.

"When I read the script and I realized that essentially it was meditation on fame and what it's become in our society, I had to do it," Watson added. "The character is everything that I felt strongly against."

During the trailer for "Bling Ring," Watson adopts a valley girl, air-headed speaking style.

"I'm a firm believer in karma," Nikki says during one clip taken from the movie. "And I think the situation if a huge learning lesson for me to grow and expand as a spiritual human being. I wanna lead a country one day for all I know."

The Sofia Coppola-directed film will make its debut at the Cannes Film Festival, but a teaser has revealed Watson with a mean-girl attitude and featured scenes of the actress pole-dancing.

"The Bling Ring" also stars Israel Broussard, Katie Chang, and Leslie Mann. It is scheduled for released in limited theaters on June 14.

Several real-life celebrities are featured as victims of the robberies, including Paris Hilton, who makes a cameo in the film.

Watson has also appeared in films such as "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" and "Ballet Shoes," and she will appear in the upcoming "Noah."
