On Sunday, television will honor some of its best at the 2012 Emmy Awards, hosted by comedian and talk show host Jimmy Kimmel.

Over 20 Emmy awards will be handed out on Sunday night, the most sought after award being the best drama series. The top challengers for the award will be "Mad Men," the defending champions, going up against two strong opponents, "Downton Abbey" and Showtime's "Homeland."

"Mad Men" has won four times in a row, but "Dowton Abbey" may prove capable of bringing down the victor. The underdogs for the award include "Boardwalk Empire", "Breaking Bad", and "Game of Thrones."

For the comedy division, there may be less of a guess to figure in. "Modern Family" is a standing champion and will be hard to knock from its throne. A comedy revolving around three couples, all of whom are related, and their children- odds are in favor of a third win.

Other contenders going up for the comedy award include HBO's new series "Girls" and an old favorite, "30 Rock." Other shows will include "The Big Bang Theory", "Veep", and "Curb Your enthusiasm."

For the best of competition reality television, two popular dancing shows have made the cut, both "Dancing with the Stars" and "So You Think You Can Dance." Surprisingly, "The Voice" has notched a spot on the list without its competitors "American Idol" and "The X-Factor." The other nominees add a little more diversity. "Amazing Race" verses the likes of "Top Chef" and "Project Runway" which are seemingly hard to compare.

The outstanding reality program division will also throw in favorites like "Antique Road Show", "MythBusters", and "Undercover Boss."

The awards show will be held at the Nokia Theatre on Sunday beginning at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT and will be aired live across the country on ABC.
