'Empire' Season 2 Cast News, Update: Actress Marisa Tomei Signed to Play a Recurring Role in Upcoming Chapter
The upcoming second season of Fox's hit hip-hop TV drama series "Empire" is adding another A-lister for a recurring lesbian role in the show.
A report from Deadline.com, said that Oscar-winning actress Marisa Tomei will play "Mimi Whiteman, a demanding venture capitalist who becomes embroiled in Lyon family drama."
According further to the site, Whiteman is included in the Forbes list of "billionairess." She has a penchant for "hip hop music, social trends, high-end fashion, and beautiful women."
It remains to be seen as to how the character will sit in with Empire's Cookie (Taraji P. Henson). It is said, however, that she will appear in several episodes of the show.
The "My Cousin Vinny" star's involvement in the series will mark another TV gig for the actress, whose latest appearance was on FX's "Rescue Me." On the screen side, she is credited for her roles in "Parental Guidance" and "Crazy, Stupid, Love."
Tomei was recently cast as Gloria Steinem in HBO's forthcoming miniseries event which she co-produced with actor George Clooney. According to TV Line, the show will tackle on the life of the 81-year-old feminist and social activist.
Aside from the mentioned actress, the sophomore season of the critically-acclaimed Fox series will also see guest performances from Chris Rock, Alicia Keys, Lenny Kravitz and Adam Rodriguez
According to Billboard.com, Season 2 of the Terrence Howard-starred show has already begun filming in June. It is expected to premiere on Wednesday, September 23, at 9 p.m. on Fox.
