'Empire' Season 2 Cast News, Update: R&B Singer Kelly Rowland to Guest Star as Lucious' Mother
The VIP guest list on the upcoming second season of Fox's hit TV drama series "Empire" is expected to grow even longer. And just this week, another high profile personality is set to appear in a rather interesting role.
A report from EOnline.com said that R&B artist Kelly Rowland is signed to play as Lucious Lyon's (Terrence Howard) mother in a flashback. The news was revealed by a source of the publication during the 2015 Essence Festival in New Orleans over the weekend.
The 34-year-old artist's involvement shouldn't come as a surprise at all. E! reported that last month, the former Destiny's Child member was seen hanging out with the "Empire" screenwriters.
Last week, it was reported that the Oscar-winning actress Marisa Tomei will appearing on the show as Mimi Whiteman, "a demanding venture capitalist who becomes embroiled in the Lyon family drama."
The recurring lesbian character is described to be a lover of "hip hop music, social trends, high-end fashion, and beautiful women."
Rowland and Tomei are the latest additions in the show's sophomore run. Previously reported new members of the cast are Chris Rock, Lenny Kravitz, and Alicia Keys who will all be making guest appearances.
Further related announcements also pointed out to the addition of two more episodes in the forthcoming season. From 12 to 18 segments, the new chapter will be split between fall and winter of which the premiere is slated to air on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 9 p.m. on Fox.
