Eva Mendez Rumored to Be Returning as Agent Fuentes in 'Fast and Furious 8'

Eva Mendes, who starred in 2008's "2 Fast 2 Furious," is rumored to be making a return for the eighth installment of the "Fast and Furious" franchise, a new report emerged.

With the runaway success of "Furious 7," which shattered the box office records for April, an eighth film is reportedly in the works, and will see the return of previous "2 Fast 2 Furious" alumnus Eva Mendes.

According to information recently come to light, the franchise will be moving their filming location for "Fast & Furious 8" to New York. According to actor Vin Diesel, who plays lead protagonist and elite racer, Dominic Toretto in the films, Mendes will once again don the persona of U.S. Customs Agent Monica Fuentes.

In the sequel to the first film, Agent Fuentes played an undercover character who teamed up with Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker) and Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson) to bring down Miami drug lord, Carter Verone (Cole Hauser).

In a brief and uncredited cameo, Mendes also appeared as Agent Fuentes in 2011's "Fast Five" when she alerted Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) to evidence Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez), who was killed off in 2009's "Fast & Furious 4," was alive and working for villain, Owen Shaw (Luke Evans).

What capacity Mendes' role will encompass in the next franchise installment has yet to be announced, including who the director, returning cast members and supporting players for "Fast & Furious 8" will be.

"Fast & Furious 8" has already been confirmed to be the first part of a new trilogy, Diesel stated during a "Jimmy Kimmel Live" appearance. With the previous installments set in some of the world's major metropolitan cities, including Los Angeles, Miami, Tokyo, and London, the new film will be shot with the Empire State Building as its backdrop.

Diesel also revealed the storyline for the eighth movie may include a much bigger role for Mr. Nobody, the black ops guru played by veteran star Kurt Russell in "Furious 7."
