Exalting Him 2005 Finals Begin This Thursday

Before there was Gospel Dream, there was Exalting Him – the original nationwide Christian music talent search, which will hold its finals beginning this Thursday in Trinity Music City, USA in Hendersonville, Tenn.
Sponsored by the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN), Daywind Records, Salem Communications, and Christian Bookstores across the United States, the Exalting Him 2005 finals will feature 18 finalists (nine soloists, and nine groups) competing in their respective categories to win a recording contract with Daywind Music Group.
“The great thing about Exalting Him 2005 is that it’s very diverse,” says Director Joanna Price. “You’ve got contemporary, gospel, inspirational, and even some rap and R&B – it’s as if God hand-picked everyone saying, ‘I want there to be a little bit of all the different ways there are to praise Me.’”

“It’s going to be interesting.”
North-Carolina natives Beyond Reason, who outlasted more than 1,200 participants in their regional audition, are one of the bands performing during this weekend’s competition.
“We have the ability to minister cross culturally,” band member Chuck Barrineau told the Georgetown Times. “We are not your garden variety white group.”
The band estimates that their trek to Nashville this weekend will cost them nearly $4000 for gas, food, and lodging.
“It’s not like American Idol where they pay you to go be on TV and sing,” says band member Lori Seymour. “We have to pay our own way.”
And while Exalting Him participants may be at a loss when it comes to travel expenses, where they gain is in the camaraderie that develops between the competitors, according to Price.
“This competition is special because the contestants become friends while they compete,” says Price. “They’re literally in the back room praying with and for each other before they go on stage, and there is genuine joy when someone gets selected.”
CCM artist Nicole C. Mullen will host the Exalting Him 2005 finals, which will take place from Aug. 25-27.
The competition will be broadcast on TBN later this year.
