Explosion at Atlanta Airport Causes Concourse Closure and Evacuation

Reports from Atlanta indicate that there was an explosion at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Local authorities have initially claimed the explosion occurred at a maintenance shed on Concourse D. Police stated that Atlanta Fire crews are on that scene and Concourse D has been evacuated. Electrical service was also shut off to the facility to prevent further damage.

There have been no confirmed reports of fire or smoke at the site of the explosion. There has also been no official word on any injuries.

Hartsfield Jackson Airport spokesman Reese McRainie says it happened near gate D-21. He says no injuries have been reported.

According to Janet Ward with Atlanta Fire Rescue, crews are working the scene of the explosion but there has been no report of the extent of the damage or what led to the explosion.
