'Fallout 4' Survival Mode Now in Beta for PC, Coming to Consoles Next Month

Open world survival game "Fallout 4," fresh from delivering its DLC "Automatron" to the game, has now opened the game's Survival Mode in beta. According to a report in Polygon, the beta is currently available for the PC version of the game. Gamers who are on Steam can access the beta for the updated Survival Mode now. The report also said that console versions of the game will be receiving the update to Survival Mode within next month.

Steam users can access the update through the settings option in their "Fallout 4" game found in their libraries. Those who wish to download the update may go to Bethesda's community forum to find out how to download.

According to a description of the features included in the difficulty mode which was detailed by Bethesda earlier, instead of having many save options, the only way for players to save in this mode is by sleeping. Fast travel is also said to be disabled in this mode; there is also fatigue; and what is called "increased lethality" which means that players can "deal and take more damage." A new perk also comes with update, called Adrenaline, which is said to increase after each kill and adds bonus damage to attacks.

Survival Mode also brings with it new diseases, weakened effects of restorative items and a lower limit to how much a player can carry around. According to another report in PC Gamer, players during the Survival Mode need to be extra careful about what they eat as uncooked meat and unpurified water can make one sick. Since saving can only be done through sleeping, different types of beds can "offer certain amounts of sleep."

Since this mode is still in beta, Bethesda is also urging PC gamers to provide feedback about their experiences through the Survival Mode Beta Forum.

The mode has been around since the game was released, but this latest update is set to change things up a bit, making the mode more difficult than it was originally designed.
