Worlds will collide this fall as "Family Guy" and "The Simpsons" cross paths for the first time. The new episode details were revealed by FOX's comedy executives at the Television Critics Association press tour.
"Family Guy" producer Rich Appel said that "The Simpsons" writers were invited to read the script and offer creative input with their team.
"We sent them the script, and I think between Jim [Brooks], Matt [Groening], and Al [Jean], they had one or two lines in the hour-long episode they asked us to tweak. They gave us free rein," said Appel.
The teaser trailer for the episode, titled "The Simpsons Guy," was shown at last month's San Diego Comic-Con.
In the video, the Griffiths are being introduced to the famous family from Springfield. At first everyone seems to get along, but then Peter and Homer get into a disagreement over which tastes better between their favorite beers -- Pawtucket Patriot Ale, a favorite of Peter, and Duff Beer, Homer's brew of choice.
Meanwhile, Bart and Stewie are seen getting along and plotting mischief together, such as making prank phone calls and skateboarding. Stewie is also seen imitating Bart's trademark bits.
The crossover episode will air in the U.S. on Sept. 28 as the one hour season 13 premiere of "Family Guy," and it has been revealed that it's going to be the same night that a major "Simpsons" character will be killed off. As for who it is, no details have been revealed as the creators of both shows have kept mum on the identity of the ill-fated animated character.
It has also been confirmed that a lot of celebrity guests are slated to drop by for the new season of "Family Guy," which include Jeff Garlin, Lea Thompson, Allison Janney, Joe Buck, Julie Bowen, and Liam Neeson.
