'Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them' Plot Details: Quartet of Protagonists and More 'Grown-Up' Feel

Not much is known about the big-screen adaptation of J.K. Rowling's book "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" beyond its cast, until recently. Entertainment Weekly shared an exclusive report about the film and its plot details, as well as sharing some interesting news from the film's London set.

Beyond the film being based on the novel, it is also known to be set in a time that pre-dates the time of Harry Potter and Hogwarts. According to the report, the story is set in the year 1926 and in the city of New York. It will follow the adventures of not just one protagonist but of four protagonists. The main protagonist is the wizard Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), who is known to be the author of one of Hogwarts' textbooks on magical creatures. In the movie, he is seen working closely with two sisters, Tina (Katherine Waterston) and Queenie (Alison Sudol). The fourth character is Jacob (Dan Fogler), a non-magical person.

The plot of the movie, according to another Entertainment Weekly report, was put together by Rowling herself, after trying to figure out how to showcase most of the magical creatures included in the 'Fantastic Beasts' catalog. Newt, who is an "eccentric magizoologist" or one who documents magical creatures in his travels, travels to New York carrying with him his mysterious case. As it turns out, because he is also a wizard, his case contains many "expansive habitats" which contain his collection of rare magical creatures. He arrives in New York and looks for the local wizarding community, which incidentally is hiding from the rest of society for fear of public persecution. When some of his creatures end up outside his case, however, he needs to deal with them magically of course while keeping his powers secret from the Muggles.

Another thing notable about the upcoming movie is how it is described by its director, David Yates. Having directed four of the original Potter movies (the latter ones), he said that the new film is "a wee bit more grown-up" than the other films in the Potter universe.

Lastly, the report revealed that Rowling is also working on the script for the next two films of the series. The current film was the first script she ever made for a movie. It was also reported that some of the characters in the Potter films may appear in the sequels of "Fantastic Beasts." The movie is set to bow in theaters in November 2016.
