'Fast & Furious' Movie News: Michelle Rodriguez Believes Franchise Should Evolve With Stronger Female Involvement in Next Films

Actress Michelle Rodriguez reaffirmed her bold suggestion for the next installment of the "Fast & Furious" franchise.

In June, the actress who portrays the role of Letty Ortiz in the blockbuster franchise shared her opinion on Instagram about how the action-packed movie saga should move forward in its next films. According to the actress, it would be better if the female characters will be given more respect in the movies.

She also mentioned that if this will not happen, then she might have to say goodbye to the "Fast & Furious" saga that she has been a part of for almost a decade.

She reiterated her statement in a recent interview with TMZ, saying that the franchise should evolve and give more opportunities for its female characters to grow.

"My path is about female empowerment, and if I'm feeling a little stagnant in that area in what I'm doing for a living, then I'm gonna have to move on," Rodriguez stated in the interview. "Evolve or die, baby. I hope they show some love to the women in the franchise. I'd like to see that. I'd like to see them talk to each other for a change, you know what I mean? I can count with one hand the times I've talked to the female actresses in the franchise, and I think that's kinda sad."

Rodriguez was not the only female in the movie franchise. Those who are given major roles in the series include Jordana Brewster as Mia Toretto, Gal Gadot as Gisele Yashar, and Nathalie Emmanuel as Ramsey. Award-winning actresses Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron also played important roles in "The Fate of the Furious" that was released in April 2017.

Details about the next installment of "Fast & Furious" are still under wraps, but the ninth movie in the franchise is slated for release on April 19, 2019, while the 10th film will be released in 2021.
