'Fate/Apocrypha' Episode 16 Spoilers: Series Sets the Stage for Its Next Big Match

Every participant in the ongoing Great Holy Grail War has a wish that they hope to be fulfilled, but it turns out that using the Greater Grail isn't as easy as merely expressing one's wish as revealed on the Japanese action-fantasy series, "Fate/Apocrypha."

The Greater Grail, on its own, is just an artifact with a great accumulation of magical energy at its core. According to Fiore, the mistress of the Archer of Black, the Grail would simply abbreviate theory and process in order to provide the intended result. The process itself may either be harmless or destructive without discretion.

So, the main concern now that Shirou has the Grail is not that he would wish for the salvation of mankind. A much greater issue is the possibility of his wish causing disastrous consequences in its wielding, whether Shirou intends it this way or not.

On the other hand, the individual wishes of the other participants have also been revealed, each one just as important to the person wanting it as the other. Sisigou, for his part, seems to hope to lift the curse that has been put on his bloodline by a vow made by his ancestor with the devil. He is now planning on stealing the Grail while the Black and Red Factions get busy battling it out.

This has been his plan all along, which explains why he has been keeping his distance from the War as much as he could. But will he be able to put this plan into action and actually succeed? Or has the changes that the Great Holy War itself has undergone already changed his perspective of things?

Shirou is determined to make his wish a reality, even going so far as to offer the entirety of his being to its fulfillment.

Moreover, Karna, the Lancer of Red, only hopes to fight once more with Siegfried, the Saber of Black, a wish that Shirou has promised to honor as soon as Siegfried makes it to the Hanging Gardens.

More intense matches, rematches, and potential betrayals are coming up. Who will eventually be the last man standing in the end?

"Fate/Apocrypha" airs on Saturdays at midnight JST on Tokyo MX, BS 11, Gumma TV and Togi TV. It also airs on Tuesdays late night at 3:30 a.m. on MBS. Episodes become available for streaming on Netflix every Monday.
