'Fatherhood Begins in the Womb' Campaign Exposes 'National Crisis'

A new billboard campaign launched in Hampton Roads, Va., reveals that in single female-led households, abortion and poverty are dominant, and calls on both the government and the church to try new approaches to help fatherless households.

The ads, sponsored by The Radiance Foundation, a pro-life encouragement and motivational organization, expose two very striking statistics, among others – that out of the 1.21 million annual abortions in the United States, 84 percent are among unmarried women, and single female-led homes are five times more likely to live in poverty. The Foundation calls this a "national crisis."

"If you look at which political party has pushed the types of social policies that has dismantled the family, I would say it has to be the Democrat Party," Ryan Bomberger, Chief Creative Officer of The Radiance Foundation, said Friday in a phone interview with The Christian Post.

"Anytime the government comes in to try and substitute for the natural family, we see destruction. When you take the father out of the home, economically you pull out the income – single females don't make as much as single males. The problem is perpetuated by generational welfare. Planned Parenthood has spent millions of dollars lobbying for these welfare programs, including the Affordable Care Act, Obamacare."

A website titled TooManyAborted.com has been launched to provide further information about the idea behind the billboards, which feature the image of a father kissing his pregnant wife's belly, with the message "Fatherhood Begins in the Womb."

The group says that its members are challenging the culture created as a result of the Roe v. Wade 1973 Supreme Court decision, which legalized abortion.

The organization's research charts the fatherlessness problem, which has actually increased in America after concerns were first raised in the 60s over the 25 percent fatherlessness rate in the black community. Today, 41 percent of all children are born to unmarried women, and that number is up to 72.3 percent among black children. Among other troubling statistics, the group reported that infant mortality is twice as high in fatherless homes.

Star Parker, President of C.U.R.E. (Center for Urban Renewal & Education), added: "Planned Parenthood has injected its venom into urban America for decades. TooManyAborted.com exposes how they've left our inner-cities fatherless and made abortion the number one killer of black Americans."

As for possible solutions to this crisis, Bomberger told CP:

"It's a multi-faceted solution. What it requires is a legal approach, an on-the-ground educational approach, and especially in the black community, the church really has to step up. They can reverse this by getting involved in a young person's life. You don't have to be a biological father, to be a father."

"All that the government can really do is throw money at something – and usually, they are really bad at doing that. But they should be encouraging life-affirming solutions. Instead of funding Planned Parenthood half a billion dollars, they should be funding efforts that help educate young people and truly preventing unintended pregnancies," Bomberger continued, noting that despite Planned Parenthood's taxpayer funding, the organization has not budged the national unintended pregnancies rate.
