'FIFA 16' Brings in Women's National Teams for the First Time (VIDEO)

EA has just released a new trailer for "FIFA 16" introducing the first ever female players to the football association video game series. EA Sports is bringing in female national team players for the first time in the game's two-decade history.

The game's publisher just released a trailer Thursday featuring 12 international teams from the U.S., Sweden, Australia, Spain, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, China, Italy, England, Germany and France. The football simulator will hit the shelves Sept. 22.

Similar to male players in the game, the female footballers will appear like they do on the soccer pitch when representing their country during competition.

According to FIFA VP and General Manager, David Rutter, the introduction of female players to the annual installment of EA's football video game simulator stems from the recent high interest in women's football. While this is a first for the popular and established video game franchise, Rutter admitted that EA has been looking into the addition of women players for several years now.

He told IGN.com that the advanced tools and technology used in video game creation is currently at a level that can do justice to women's football games.

EA earlier began a drawing board approach to female players, ensuring a high end product that features looks and moves that are authentic to the minute detail for basic player movement all the way to celebratory animations, rather than just slapping female skins on male player bodies, which would have been a disappointment to the games' female fans.

To that end, EA has traveled around the world to capture female athletes' faces and heads, giving them the exact same treatment as Man City, Chelsea or Arsenal. The developer has also rebuilt animation to support female body dimensions and movements, ensuring shooting, passing, jogging, walking, and even standing display female animation instead of male.

"FIFA 16" is set to launch four months from now on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.
