'FIFA 18' Remains on Top of UK Sales Chart Last Week, Edges Out 'Forza Motorsport 7'

Despite a stiff challenge coming from a newcomer, EA's "FIFA 18" still reigned supreme in the UK.

According to the latest Top 40 entertainment software list from sales monitoring firm Gfk Chart-Track, the football simulation game emerged on top of Week Ending Oct. 7. The game also held the number one spot the previous week.

Closing in on second place was newcomer "Forza Motorsport 7" from developer Turn 10 Studios, and published by Microsoft Studios. Keeping its firm hold on the third spot was "Forza Horizon 3," also from Turn 10 Studios.

Meanwhile, Bungie's "Destiny 2" slipped two spots down to number four while "Grand Theft Auto V" from Rockstar Games remained at the number five spot. Still at number six was "Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy" from Naughty Dog and Activision. It was followed by newcomer "The Lego Ninjago Video Game" that debuted at number seven.

"Mario Kart 8 Deluxe" from Nintendo jumped two spots up to number eight. Rounding out the top 10 are "NBA 2K18" from 2K Sports and "Lego Worlds" by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment at the ninth and 10th spots, respectively.

Gamespot also noted some of the other new releases that could make some noise in the coming weeks. These titles include "Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions" at the 19th spot, "Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy" at 31st, and "Dragons' Dogma: Dark Arisen HD" at 39th.

Meanwhile, Eurogamer reported that physical sales of "Forza Motorsport 7" were down compared to its predecessor, "Forza Motorsport 6," which debuted in 2015. The report said that the lower sales output of the recently-released game could be attributed to the "Forza Horizon 3," which is still on the market today.

Furthermore, the spike in digital sales over the past two years could have also impacted the physical sales of the title. Despite this, the "Forza" franchise is still making huge strides, overall, with two titles currently in the Top 5.
