'Fifty Shades Darker' Release Date, Plot News: Production Starts 'Early 2016,' Sequels Will Be Shot Back-To-Back

Fans of the box-office hit "Fifty Shades of Grey" were excited to hear that the film's sequels are finally in its pre-production stage and will be starting production by early 2016. According to a report in Variety, Universal Pictures has finally decided to work on the sequels after rumors of "creative differences" between the studio and author E.L. James began to surface.

The report also noted that the two sequels "Fifty Shades Darker" and "Fifty Shades Freed" will be shot back-to-back.

Both films will be helmed by James Foley, who will be directing the franchise for the first time. The first film was directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson who quit the franchise in March 2015 after rumored conflicts between her and James.

In another report in International Business Times, James was reportedly on her way to Vancouver with one of the film's producers, Dana Brunetti. Vancouver was the location where the first film was filmed in 2013.

James revealed her trip to Vancouver through her Instagram account. Brunetti, on the other hand, shared on Twitter about the quick adventure he was taking with the author and co-producer.

The report also said that James has been with Brunetti a lot lately, an indication that the film's pre-production work may already be in full swing. This is in time with the early 2016 start of production work news that have been circulating. She shared a photo of Brunetti on the phone after they arrived in Vancouver.

She also posted on her Instagram account a photo of the Audi A3's interior with the caption "#SubmissiveSpecial" which is an obvious reference to her "Fifty Shades" novels.

The second film "Fifty Shades Darker" will premiere in theaters on February 10, 2017, while the next film "Fifty Shades Freed" will be shown on February 9, 2018.

The first film earned more than $560 million at the worldwide box office when it was shown in 2015. It was consistently in the number one spot for three consecutive weeks.
