Final Fantasy 14 A Realm Reborn PS4 will Allow PS3 Gamers to Upgrade for Free

Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn is launching for the PS4 on April 14, and now gamers who have it for the PS3 can upgrade for free.

According to Polygon, this upgrade, while friendly to users, comes with a catch. Upon carrying over all data, items, and game features to the PS4, the PS3 version will no longer be accessible. Also, this service is only available for free until Dec. 31.

The game recently had a free trial for the first week of April after previously having another trial run from Feb. 22 to March 3.

The next-gen version of the game has updated 1080p graphics, enables use of the DualShock 4 touchpad and Share button, and allows for mouse and keyboard controls for easy transition for those who are used to PC play. Cinemablend also reported the game will use PS Vita Remote Play as well.

"Please be aware that after transferring to the PS4 you'll be unable to play the PS3 version using your existing copy," Square Enix community project manager Hergen Thaens said on the PlayStation Blog. "Users who wish to play using both the PS3 and PS4 are required to purchase the PS4 version separately. Users who own multiple service accounts for the PS3 can transfer all accounts to the PS4. Users transferring their accounts will have access during the early access period, scheduled from April 11th to the 13th. Please note: to transfer your PS3 account, you must have logged into it from a PS3 at least once."

The game is a MMOG with both a Standard Edition and Collector's Edition with pre-orders available now. If pre-ordered, the gamer will receive a mog-cap and a Cait Sith doll minion, reported Polygon. Also included with the Collector's Edition will be an art book, soundtrack CD, art cards, a themed security token and some in game bonus features and items.

The Standard Edition of the game will be $39.99 while The Collector's Edition will be $79.99. The digital Collector's Edition will be $59.99.
