'Final Fantasy 7 Remake' Rumors: How Will the New Game Capture the 'Essence' of the Original?

Elements such as the story and the familiar progression systems included in the original game could be retained in the 'Final Fantasy 7 Remake'

The original "Final Fantasy 7" was and still is such an iconic title, and that is why the developers of the "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" want to make sure that the things that made the first game special will still be present in the new offering.

Speaking recently to different media outlets at the MAGIC 2017 event in Monaco, director Tetsuya Nomura hinted that while the remake may be changing some things, there are also elements of the original that will remain intact.

According to a translation of the interview provided by KH13, Nomura specifically noted that the "essence of the universe" included in the original will still be present in the remake.

This statement from Nomura is admittedly a little vague, but it does hint at the desire of the developers to make sure that the new game they are working on does not stray too far from its roots.

Still, exactly how they are planning to hold on to the "essence" of the original game is a question that has thus far remained largely unanswered, but if this is the plan, then developers may leave certain elements of the original untouched.

For example, the original's main storyline that contained moments of great tragedy and thrilling triumph will likely remain intact in the remake, as tinkering with it in a significant way may turn the new game into an entirely different one too.

Furthermore, memories of those powerful spells, summons and Limit Breaks that were included in the original have been etched into the minds of many fans, so replacing them would seem to be something developers will not want to do if they want to preserve that link between the original and the remake.

The "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" will attempt to take this beloved role-playing game into the modern age of gaming, but as developers have noted, it will not do so by ditching everything that was included in the original, and seeing how this will be done may be something worth waiting for.
