Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Announced by Square-Enix
Square-Enix recently announced that it will release the new Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn for the PC and PlayStation 3 console in the near future.
The company describes the game as a "fully-redesigned, massively multiplayer online adventure."
"Since announcing our plans for the future of the title last October, we have been working tirelessly to include all of the elements that we have promised in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. This new title not only becomes a symbol of a completely new Final Fantasy XIV, but also marks the beginning of a new stage as the latest title in the FF series," said Naoki Yoshida, producer and editor of FFXIV.

Square-Enix has also created a new website dedicated to the game that went live today that offers background information on the world's in FFXIV. This information can be accessed at www.finalfantasyxiv.com.
The original version of FFXIV was released in September 2010 for the PC and received a mostly negative reception.
Due to the public's response, Square Enix reshuffled the game's development team and completely overhauled FFXIV's gameplay. The original version was also expected to be released for the PlayStation 3, but never made it due to the poor reception.
The new version will launch for both PC and PlayStation 3 and features a new graphics engine, new server and data structures, a revamped interface, redesigned maps, more gameplay variations and content, and new playable sexes of certain races.
Square did not announce an exact release date for the game, but plans to have it out in either late-2012, or early 2013.
Final Fantasy XIV is the second game in the series to be completely online with the first being 2002's Final Fantasy XI. The rest of the Final Fantasy titles are storyline based role players that all take place in separate universes with different characters.
