First-Gen Motorola Moto X Smartphones to Get Android 5.1 Lollipop Update 'In A Few Weeks'

Owners of the first-gen Motorola Moto X smartphone are expected to receive the Android 5.1 Lollipop update in the coming weeks.

A report from Phone Arena cited Motorola's David Schuster going over to his social media announcing the great news which indicates that the 2013 Motorola flagship will soon be getting the sweet firmware right after the tech firm is finished with the testing.

"I know that a lot of people have been asking about the status of the Moto X (1st Gen) Lollipop upgrade. I can see the frustration and in some cases the anger about how long it has taken to get the upgrade deployed. It has been a struggle due to the lack of support from some of our partners but I am glad to announce that we are starting TestDrive in both the US and LatAm. If all goes well we should start full deployments in a few weeks," Schuster said in his Google Plus account.

The publication meanwhile noted that Schuster's statement is still unclear if the given update will arrive first for the unlocked versions of the hand-held device or to those under contracts with mobile network carriers.

Needless to say, the new 5.1 Lollipop update will see the device upgraded with a new Material Design-inspired user interface, a much-improved functional locksreen, a multitasking screen, and an enhanced security feature which locks the device permanently when lost or stolen and will remain so unless the user logs in to his/her Google account.

Under the hood, the new OS patch will bring along a host of performance improvements, bug fixes, as well as the new Battery Saving mode feature.
