Floyd Mayweather Jr. Vs Conor McGregor: Pretty Boy Tells Freddie Roach Fight Is On Against UFC Fighter

Boxing trainer says McGregor needs years of boxing preparation.

In a visit to boxing coach Freddie Roach last week, Floyd Mayweather Jr. asked the well-known trainer to work with UFC champion Conor McGregor for their upcoming fight.

Though he denied that McGregor's camp approached him to ask for help when it comes to training, Roach confirmed that Mayweather personally asked him to coach the UFC fighter for a possible match, The Sun said.

"He asked me to take that job if it's offered to me, because he told me the fight is going to happen and we're going to make a lot of money," Roach mentioned in the same report. He, however, claimed that it would take about three years for McGregor to transition from an MMA fighter to a boxer.

The coach, who has worked with one of Mayweather's latest opponent, Manny Pacquiao, explained that the Irish MMA fighter looks tough inside the Octagon but he still do not have the skills to win a boxing match especially against the undefeated American fighter. Roach said it would be very easy for Mayweather to take him out in boxing.

Mayweather, according to Sporting News, discussed the possibility of the fight with Roach but he did not mention the planned date for the match. Earlier reports indicated that the much-awaited competition could happen in Las Vegas this coming September.

If the fight will happen in a couple of months, Roach noted that McGregor will have low chances of defeating Mayweather. The coach said the UFC fighter's experience is no match to the 49-0 record of Pretty Boy.

He also tagged McGregor as a "newbie" in boxing if he will try to jump the fence from the UFC territory into professional boxing. "He looks like an okay boxer," Roach added.

Mayweather announced his retirement last year after he defeated Andre Berto in September. He said he was done with boxing, one match after he unanimously won against Pacquiao, in a fight that took years before materializing.

He, however, hinted that he could come back to fighting if McGregor would decide to seal a match with him. In a recent Instagram post, Mayweather shared a teaser of his planned fight with McGregor. Netizens were left questioning if it was a hint of a potential fight or was Pretty Boy just encouraging McGregor to fight him.

The UFC champion has expressed his desire to be Mayweather's contender saying he is interested to know how "The Money" will come up with a fighting style suited for both boxing and the UFC, Daily Mail said. However, McGregor said he will not agree with the rumored split of earnings that will give Mayweather $100 million while he will get only $7 million.
