Floyd Mayweather Vs. Conor McGregor Fight Isn't Happening: Lennox Lewis Claims 'Money' Scared of 'The Notorious'; Amir Khan Wants to Take Over

The highly anticipated fight between Conor "The Notorious" McGregor and Floyd "Money" Mayweather is not happening because the latter is a scared fighter, former world heavyweight boxing champion Lennox Lewis claimed. As the possibility of the bout slowly fades, Amir Khan expressed his willingness to do what Mayweather won't.

Lewis: Mayweather is Scared of McGregor

Lewis told The Daily Star Sport that the Mayweather-McGregor fight will never take place because there is no chance that Mayweather will agree to it. The former WBC, IBF and WBO heavyweight champion believed that the interest Mayweather showed about the match were just all hype.

"I don't think Floyd is going to do that. I think Floyd is just talking," Lewis said. "I don't think he'll do it because he's a scared fighter."

Mayweather-McGregor Fight a Publicity Stunt?

It can be recalled that reports about the Mayweather-McGregor fight have kept on surfacing in the past months. Although there was no direct confirmation, both camps have teased about the event.

"It may not be a rumor. Keep your fingers crossed. It may be a boxer versus an MMA fighter," Mayweather stated in a video clip shared by FightHype.com.

According to ESPN, McGregor and UFC president Dana White both ruled out the possibility that the fight will push through. White said that Mayweather's camp has not contacted him to make the hyped match a reality. Moreover, McGregor expressed that he is very much willing to go against Mayweather and make fight adjustments in case the retired boxer decides to realize the rumored fight.

McGregor was unbeaten for six consecutive years until Nate Diaz ended his winning streak at UFC 196. On the other hand, Mayweather retired last year with a perfect 49-0 record, after beating Manny Pacquiao.

Khan Wants to Replace Mayweather in The Fight

In an interview with FloCombat, Khan expressed his desire to set aside his friendship with McGregor and face him in the cage or in the ring. The former unified WBA and IBF light-welterweight champion said that he is fascinated about the idea of fighting against McGregor, a massive name in the MMA. He added that he is willing to do everything to make the match a reality.

Khan stated that he still have enough time to learn mixed martial arts. He added that it would be easier for him to switch sports since he has been fighting all his life.

Just like Lewis, Khan believed that the Mayweather-McGregor fight is a publicity stunt initiated by the retired boxer. "I don't think Mayweather would want to fight under MMA rules," he opined.
