Former Director of 'James Bond' Films Hints on Who the Next 007 Will Be

After the departure of Daniel Craig from the "James Bond" franchise, there has been talk of a new "James Bond" in the near future.

It was reported that "Spectre" was to be Craig's last movie as the iconic James Bond. Though he is leaving, the franchise is expected to continue the James Bond legacy.

With that, there has been a lot of speculation on who the new Bond will be. Though the role has yet to be confirmed, fans believe that the upcoming role will be portrayed by fan favorite actor Tom Hiddleston, as per Business Insider. However, recent news hinted that the popular character will not be played by Hiddleston.

The director of the previous Bond films, Sam Mendes, explained that the upcoming star will be an unexpected choice of cast. Aside from the new James Bond actor, Mendes confirmed that he will no longer be part of the 007 franchise. He said that the decisions concerning the film will be made by the producer of the show, Barbara Broccoli.

during the Hay Festival, Mendes explained to The Guardian the reason for his departure from the project. He said, "I'm a storyteller and at the end of the day I want to make stories with new characters."

He did say that he had a great experience working on the "James Bond" films. However, he felt as though it was someone's time to tell the story of the iconic secret agent. Nevertheless, he teased that the upcoming film will bring a lot of exciting new additions to the franchise. He said, "I can guarantee whatever happens with it, it will not be what you expect. That's what she [Broccoli] has been brilliant at, and that's how it'll survive."

However, there has yet to be any details regarding the release date of the upcoming film.
