George H.W. Bush, America's oldest living president and vice president at 90-years-old, was rushed to a hospital in Houston, Texas Tuesday night after experiencing shortness of breath.

"President Bush was taken by ambulance to the Houston Methodist Hospital as a precaution after experiencing a shortness of breath earlier this evening," said a statement from Bush's staff, highlighted by the USA Today. "The former president, age 90, will be held for observation, again as a precaution."

Bush was reportedly treated for nearly two months in the same hospital for a bronchitis-related cough and other health issues before being discharged in January 2013. He also recently began using a wheelchair.

Noting that President Barack Obama, who is currently on vacation in Hawaii, was informed of the situation, White House spokesman Eric Schultz said the Obamas sent well wishes.

"President Obama and the first lady send their good wishes to the former president and the entire Bush family during this holiday season," said Schultz.

The former president who suffers from Graves' disease last appeared in public in November at an event at Texas A&M University which he attended with his son, former President George W. Bush, according to ABC News.

In June, he celebrated his 90th birthday with a tandem parachute jump near his summer home in Maine – the same way he celebrated his 75th, 80th and 85th birthdays.
