Forty Religious Leaders to Convene for Interfaith Conference in Kenya
Some 40 religious leaders from across Africa have agreed to take part in a three-day summit in Kenya to deliberate an inter-faith approach to peace in Africa, March 27-29. The conference, hosted by the Nairobi-based Inter-faith Action for Peace in Africa office, is part of a follow-up process of a Lutheran World Federation-led initiative to resolve conflicts in the continent with the assistance of faith communities.
The LWF General Secretary Rev. Dr Ishmael Noko will address the meeting, which will be attended by faith leaders from Burundi, Djibouti, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda. Other presentations will include a focus on the challenges of inter-faith dialogue and relationships in the region, emerging conflict trends and the implications of truth commissions and democratic transitions.
The conference follows the highly successful Inter-Faith Peace Summit in Africa, October 2002 in Johannesburg, South Africa. The Summit, also initiated by the LWF brought together over 100 religious leaders from across the continent.
