Frances Bean Cobain in Edgy Photos

Frances Bean Cobain has modeled in risqué photographs just prior to her nineteenth birthday. The daughter of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love, Frances is seen donning tattered clothing and gothic accessories, including many crosses, while displaying her numerous tattoos.

The photos, taken by French fashion designer and photographer Hedi Slimane, include a statue of Jesus standing with a child hugging a cross. Also in the collection is a picture of a decorated cross, and an image of Cobain’s tattooed, sinewy arms with a crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

Cobain strikingly resembles both of her rock star parents, especially her father, the former Nirvana singer. Her dark hair, pale skin, and light eyes stand out in the black-and-white images. Many of her tattoos are words and phrases, but also visible are stars and flowers, all located on her back, hands, and the undersides of her arms.

Born August 18, 1992, Cobain was raised by her mother, aunts, and her paternal grandmother, following her father’s suicide when she was one year and eight months old. Cobain’s godparents consist of actress Drew Barrymore and R.E.M’s front man Michael Stipe.

Cobain’s mother, Hole singer Courtney Love, was accused of using heroin while one week pregnant, as well as after Frances was born. Child welfare services launched a thorough investigation, which was eventually dismissed, but resulted in Frances being removed from her parent’s care in the first two weeks of her life.

Cobain lived in Seattle and Northridge, California while growing up and has only given five official interviews to date. On her sixteenth birthday, Cobain threw a “RIP childhood”-themed party in Los Angeles, financed by her mother. The party created controversy about Love’s influence over her daughter, and tabloids claimed Cobain had an unhealthy relationship with her mother.

In 2008, Cobain interned for Rolling Stone magazine, and last summer her artwork was exhibited in a Los Angeles gallery. She has appeared as a guest vocalist on artist Evelyn Evelyn’s track “My Space” as one of 20 other artists whose voices were blended together in the recording.
