Frankie Edgar News: Former Lightweight Champion Irate At Possibly Being Passed Over For Title Shot Once Again

Former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar is irate about the possibility that he would once again be passed over for a world title shot.

"The Answer", who is currently on a five-fight winning streak, last defeated former two-time featherweight title challenger Chad Mendes at the Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale on December 11th, a day prior to the UFC 194 blockbuster, headlined by José Aldo and Conor McGregor.

Edgar, who recently faced the likes of Cub Swanson, Urijah Faber and B.J Penn, was guaranteed the title shot by UFC president Dana White during the TUF 22 Finale post-fight press conference. According to White, "nobody can deny" that Edgar does indeed deserve the title shot, particularly after his performance against Mendes.

The 34-year-old Tom's River, New Jersey native finished Mendes via a first round knockout. However, after McGregor's declaration of moving up to lightweight and fighting for Rafael dos Anjos' title instead, Edgar admits he is beginning to lose hope that he would be getting the title shot that he was promised.

In an interview with MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani at The MMA Hour, Edgar vented out his frustration on the matter. He first expressed his sheer dissatisfaction on the matter, noting how he had been clamoring for the said title shot since defeating Cub Swanson in November 2014 via a dominant fifth round submission.

Edgar noted how he was trying to be a "company man," but has not been getting the recognition he deserves.

"For sure, I'm pissed," Edgar admitted to Helwani. "I've been at it for a while now, I've been knocking on the door for this title shot for a while."

Edgar also admits that while he is hoping that things would still go in his favor, he is already expecting the worst. That being said, he also conceded to the idea that he has no other choice but to deal with whatever situation that will present itself to him.

"What, am I going to bother them [Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta]? For what? For them to say no? So they can promise me something one day and say no the next? Come on," he said.
