May 23, 2012|11:59 am

7-Eleven stores everywhere are offering free 7.11-ounce Slurpees Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Fans of the frozen drink may be wondering why 7-Eleven is giving away free Slurpees when it usually doles out the drink on July 11, 7/11 day. The chain convenient store is hosting the Slurpee giveaway Wednesday in order to promote the new line of sugar-free Slurpees that were recently announced.

"Summer's here and so [is] FREE Slurpee. Swing by 7-Eleven on May 23 and grab yourself 7.11 ounces of cool, refreshing glory juice," reads the store's Facebook page. "Our treat! And don't miss our new Slurpee Lite Fanta Sugar-free mango- 50% fewer calories. Same big Slurpee taste."

The new reduced-calorie flavors are referred to as the "Flavors of Summer" and include the Slurpee Lite varieties: Fanta Sugar-Free Mango, Fanta Sugar-Free Strawberry Banana, Fanta Sugar-Free Cherry Limeade, as well as regular Slurpee flavors Fanta Watermelon Lime, Fanta Lemon Creme, and Fanta Orange Xplosion.

Only one flavor is offered as they are featured per month this summer. Slurpee Lite is sweetened with sucralose and contain about 20 calories per eight ounces.

On Twitter, Slurpee fans are sounding off about Free Slurpee Day.

"It's finally here," wrote Ann. "Free Slurpee day!"

Jay posted, "SLURPEES --> Free Slurpees at 7-Eleven today! New Slurpee Lite Rollout designed to woo consumers."

The store will still hold Free Slurpee Day on July 11, 2012.
