Friends and family of David “Pop” Winans Sr. will be gathering this week to remember and celebrate the life of the patriarch behind the Winans Family musical dynasty.

Winans died at the Alive Hospice in Nashville, Tenn., last Wednesday – less than two weeks before his 75th birthday.

The Winans family has since asked for prayers and privacy, directing well-wishers to send flowers, donations, and other items of sentiment to Perfecting Church in Detroit, where the family will be hosting events in remembrance of “Pop” Winans.

“Words cannot express me and my family’s deep appreciation for all of your prayers and well wishes,” commented gospel music star Bebe Winans, the seventh of ten Winans children, to supporters.

On Tuesday, at 7 p.m., a memorial service will be held at Perfecting Church, where Marvin L. Winans, another of Winans' sons, is senior pastor.

And on Wednesday, at 10 a.m., there will be a homegoing celebration service also held at Perfecting Church.

Winans is survived by wife, Delores, nine children – David Winans II, Carvin, Marvin, Michael, Daniel, BeBe, CeCe, Angie, and Debbie – and 23 grandchildren. The second eldest child, Ronald, passed in June 2005 at the age of 48.

As a whole, the Winans family – including the spouses of the Winans children – is known for their noteworthy achievements in the music industry, including the myriad of awards and accolades they’ve racked up over the yeasr. Combined, they have been recognized with more than 35 Grammy Awards, over 20 Stellar and Dove Awards, and about a half-a-dozen NAACP Image Awards.
