'Frozen 2' News: Director Says Sequel Will Tackle Societal Issues; Elsa Will Have More Fun

While there is still no official word from the Walt Disney Animation Studios on any details of the "Frozen" sequel, speculations about the film have been popping up left and right since it was announced in March of this year.

With so much excitement over "Frozen 2" and so much pressure on the production staff to make a film that will top - or at least be as good as - the commercially successful and critically acclaimed "Frozen," it's no wonder that Disney CEO Bob Iger has announced that the company will not fast-track the film. In January, Iger said: "We're not demanding speed. We're demanding excellence."

Meanwhile, directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, the duo who brought the beloved blockbuster hit "Frozen" to life, are returning to direct the sequel. And while Buck told MTV News that the directors had just got back together and started brainstorming, he did say that they had a very strong overall concept in place.

So what can fans expect from the sequel? While everyone directly involved with the film has so far kept mum about it, the directors have revealed that regardless of where the new story takes them, Anna and Elsa will be together.

Does this mean that neither of them will die in "Frozen 2?"

For now, nobody knows for sure. While fans can speculate on what effect this event would have on the "Frozen 2" story, the bigger question may be of what killing off a beloved character will do to sales of that character's merchandise.

One of the few things fans do know for sure is that the directors want to make sure that they take this opportunity to send a strong, positive message to Anna and Elsa's fans. According to Buck, Anna and Elsa are two exceptionally strong leads and they want to highlight the two sisters' strength in the next film. "We will keep that going in the next one. We will tackle other issues that, I think, are out there today that boys and girls, men and women, are dealing with," the director said in the same MTV News report.

He also added: "When the kids [watch] them, they watch them over and over again, and if we don't have a decent message in there, I think we've missed an opportunity."

Buck also revealed that people will see more of Elsa's fun personality in "Frozen 2," saying, "That's what was really good about [Frozen Fever] - we could have fun with Elsa. And that personality... you will see in the next one."

While there is no official release date for "Frozen 2," there has been speculation that the sequel won't be released until 2018.
