Galaxy Mega Confirmed by Samsung, Device Falls Between Note 2 and Tab

Samsung's Galaxy Mega smartphone-tablet line has been confirmed with the arrival of two devices that have larger displays than the Galaxy Note 2.

There is a 6.3-inch model and a 5.8-inch version. The first of these comes with an HD display which has close to 720p resolution. It also comes with a dual-core 1.7GHz processor, Android 4.2, an 8-megapixel camera and multiple software features such as Air View, Multi Windows, and Pop-up Play.

The device also comes with LTE and HSPA radios along with GPS, GLONASS, and a 3,200mAh battery to keep the phone powered while using all of these features. Users will also be able to install a microSD card in order to expand the Galaxy Mega's memory.

The Galaxy Mega 5.8-inch model comes with HSPA connectivity only. It features a qHD display with 960  x 540 resolution with a 1.4GHz dual-core processor. It comes with the same 8-megapixel camera as the larger version and is sold with only 8GB of internal storage.

There has been no word on pricing yet for either of these devices.

The Galaxy Mega's 6.3-inch screen falls just below the Samsung's flagship Galaxy Tab 7.0 in terms of size. The company appears to be unafraid to release at device at any screen size. And even though these two behemoths trump the Galaxy Note 2 in screen size, the S Pen accessory is noticeably absent here, making them nothing more than blown up versions of smaller Samsung devices.

Other companies such as Huawei and Sony have been inspired by the Note, creating larger smartphones to compete with the phablet. This Galaxy Mega line appears to be Samsung's plan to crush all those competitors by having this massive smartphone market locked down.
