Galaxy Note 3 Active with Flexible Display Rumors Shot Down, Company Launching New Line

Rumors of a Galaxy Note 3 Active with a flexible display hit the internet yesterday, but now it seems that Samsung will take a different route for implementing that feature into its future handsets.

Instead of releasing a Galaxy Note model with the a bendable screen, the company will create a distinct series of devices that are similar to the Galaxy Note and S lines, according to a report from Korean outlet Money Today.

This new set of curved screen phones will be similar to the YOUM prototypes that the company debuted back at CES during January. The first of these devices will not feature an S Pen and will not be a rugged variant of the Note 3, ruling out the Active model being the first to have a bendable frame.

Samsung executives recently confirmed that the first handset with a plastic display will launch sometime this month.

A Japanese site known as Ameblo discovered a GFXBench benchmark entry that could belong to the curved screen device Samsung is speaking about.

The entry for the device codenamed SM-G910S revealed its specs that include a Snapdragon 800 processor, a Full HD (1920x1080) display, and Android 4.3, JellyBean. The handset is LTE-A compatible and may end up launching as soon as next week in Korea, according to the site.

LG will also be launching a device with a bendable display with the upcoming G Flex handset. It will feature a 6-inch curved screen with 1280 x 720 resolution, and a Snapdragon processor. The entire handset will not be bendable, but the screen will feature a curved design that is ideal for watching videos and gaming, according to a report from CNET.

The G Flex smartphone could be available as early as November.
